## 概述

帝王花属 Protea 属山龙眼科。WCVP 记录本属原生于非洲，从南非开普省一直分布到热带非洲的尼日利亚、埃塞俄比亚和肯尼亚，但种类集中在南非。SANBI 介绍，山龙眼科在冈瓦纳古陆约 1.4 亿年前分裂之前就已分成两个亚科；南部非洲约有 360 种，其中 330 多种只见于开普植物区。属名来自希腊神话里能随意变形的海神普罗透斯，指本属植株、花型和花色的多变。

最有名的是帝王花 P. cynaroides，南非国花，也是世界知名的切花。SANBI 记载它的“花”其实是花头：中央聚生许多小花，外围是大而彩色的苞片，花头直径约 12–30 厘米，苞片从乳白到深红，以带银色光泽的淡粉色最受欢迎。因为各产地的类型花期不同，它能按不同出口市场的时间商品化生产，现在新西兰、澳大利亚和夏威夷也大量种植。

## 分类与命名

WCVP 以林奈 1771 年的《Mantissa Plantarum》为本属的发表处。SANBI 在银树（Leucadendron argenteum）的介绍里讲了这段历史：林奈当年以银树为基础定义 Protea，称之为 Protea argentea；1807 年和 1810 年 Salisbury 与 Robert Brown 重新整理山龙眼科，划分出今天的各属，Brown 以银树为基础重新定义并保留了 Leucadendron 这个名字。所以下表的属级异名里会出现 Leucadendron。

帝王花的种加词 cynaroides 意为“像洋蓟的”，因为它的花苞酷似洋蓟（SANBI）。本页头图是 1804 年 Curtis 植物学杂志第 770 图的帝王花。

## 生态与切花处理

SANBI 介绍，帝王花由太阳鸟、食蜜鸟等鸟类传粉；生长在每 10–30 年发生一次自然火灾的灌丛中，靠粗壮的地下木质茎（木质块茎）在火后重新萌发。花头中央的小花陆续开放，持续时间长，所以既是花园里的景观，也是耐久的切花。

Floralife 说帝王花不是热带花，不必冷藏得很低，而是喜欢较温和的冷藏：4–10 °C，最好 4 °C、湿度 85%；瓶插期 10–20 天，对乙烯敏感度低，插花泥中表现良好。采收时花枝要成熟、枝端不软，花头至少外圈小花已完全展开；选购时叶片不能发黑。叶片发黑与光照不足和储存条件有关，应放在光线充足的地方、使用保鲜剂、避免高温，桶中腐烂的叶片和缺水也会加重。
